Fernando Alves

imagemI was born in 1964 in Recife and very early on  I  noticed my particular interest in painting. But only in 2004  did I really try to paint for the first time. As a starter, my first ideas were abstract and geometric forms.

Slowly these forms began to develop into defined figures and so I discovered I was inclined to do figurative painting. In March of  2005 I started taking painting classes at Museu do Estado de Pernambuco, with artist Mariza Varella who helped  me  with classical painting and drawing. She  always allowed me to feel very free in the process. Little by little,  I find my own style. That was the year of Fauvism's centenary. Matisse´s paintings then began to fill my imagination and I ended up covering some canvases with plenty of colors. In the sequence of my work I discovered the pleasure of free hand drawing  almost not concerned with forms or figures. Cartoon-like figures began to develop all of a sudden. Only then did I discover that my painting was becoming Naive. The more I paint naive art the more I like it. I would like to invite you to visit my website and highly appreciate your inputs about my work.
